Sometimes You Just Need a Break

Well, hive, I took your advice from my last post and took a little break from wedding stuff. Wedding craft stuff, anyway. I’ve spent the past week working on logistical things: confirming things with vendors, working out a day-of timeline, micromanaging the crap out of everything in my own version of The Packet, and it feels good to know that those details are taken care of now. I think part of what was worrying me before was that I was spending all this energy on piddly detail crafty things and letting the important stuff—vendors, logistics, making sure everyone and everything knows where they’re going and what’s expected of them and when—fall by the wayside. Yes, it’s early (we have just under five weeks left), but as we discussed before, I’m type-A. I’m a planner. Letting those important logistical details go to the last minute really makes me crazy. So I re-prioritized. I took care of all the logistical details that I could at this point, I crossed a ton of stuff off our to-do list, and knowing that that’s all taken care of has opened up some mental space for the fun, frilly stuff again.

So! Over the holiday weekend, I spent some time wrapping up some crafts that I had been putting off. First up was our card box. I had purchased this box at a craft store forever ago, and was using it as a “memory box” for the year of our engagement.

I put my graduation cords and tassel (because we got engaged just before I graduated college), my graduation cards, engagement cards, the bags from the jewelry stores where we bought my e-ring and wedding ring, the tags from my dress, our guests’ RSVP cards, and various other memorabilia in there. At some point I realized that this box matched our wedding colors and style pretty well, so I decided to use it as a card box at the wedding. I put all of our memory items safely in a bag, and made a “cards” label for the box.

I used some of the champagne paisley paper left over from our invitations, and traced out the letters using wooden ones I had bought but decided against using at the last minute (because painting them was too much work for lazy ol’ me):

And after a little bit of ribbon, double-sided tape, and glue gunning, I had this:

Pretty!

Seeing how this project came out sort of rekindled my love for DIY’ing and my desire to have pretty wedding details. So we will continue to push through the laziness and get these last craft projects done. Our to-do list for craft projects is really quite short now anyway:

  • Get candles for centerpieces
  • Make sign directing guests to sign our guestbook photo mat
  • Make wine cork place cards
  • Finish swags for ceremony decor

I promise you guys posts on the last two soon, plus a few other odds and ends that I haven’t talked about yet!

Has anyone else had to take a break from wedding stuff lately?
