Mama Angelfish is just as excited (or maybe even a little more excited) than I am for this wedding. I guess it has to do with me being an only child AND a daughter. So she has been jumping into her own DIY projects throughout this process.
One day she text me and said, “Don’t be mad at me…and I won’t get offended if you don’t like it.” I was confused. Don’t like what? She then sent me a picture of the cutest card box! I asked her where she bought it, and she said she got the Martha Stewart Gift Card Box from Amazon, and she just added some embellishments.

Here are Mama A’s tips for putting the box together:
- It is super easy to put together, but it NEEDS some reinforcement. It comes with double-faced tape, but it is not strong enough by itself. Mama A followed the instructions that came with the package, but she used tacky glue in addition to the double-faced tape.
- After she let the glue and tape set for 24 hours, Mama A used clear mailing tape on the inside of the box to reinforce the sides of the box to the base.
- Since the assembly process required extra enforcement, Mama A does not recommend taking the box apart once it has been assembled. But with all the structural modifications, it will become a perfect storage box for pictures, trinkets, etc. after the wedding.
Now for the fun part: making it personal!
More than a year ago, I had bought a huge “bling roll” from the Weddingbee Classifieds. I did not know what I was going to do with it, but so far, it has come in handy for adding a little last-minute pizzazz to different projects throughout the wedding. Mama A used some of the bling roll, along with some leftover ribbon and calla lilies from making the boutonnieres (which I can’t wait to reveal later) to personalize the box. The ribbon also acts as a barrier to prevent nosy people from taking the top off the box during the reception.
Here is the finished product:
Since she had everything at home to make this project work, it only ended up costing Mama A the price of the box itself. And neither one of us can leave the Amazon website with just ONE item, so, of course, shipping was FREE!
Total cost: $12.49
Did you have any family/friends work on DIY projects for you? How did they turn out?
